The American Chamber of Commerce in Guangdong (AmCham) is a non-partisan, non-profit business organization, certified in 1995 by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C. AmCham Guangdong has more than 550 corporate and individual members, and represents over 480 American and international companies doing business in south China.
Objectives The objectives of Chamber are: ¡¤ To promote the development of trade, commerce, and investment between the United States and the People¡¯s Republic of China, ¡¤ To provide a forum in which American businesses in China can identify and discuss common interests regarding their commercial interests in China, ¡¤ To work with organizations in China on matters of mutual interest,
¡¤ To maintain relations with the Chamber of Commerce of the United States and other Chambers of Commerce or commercial organizations elsewhere, and ¡¤ To do all other lawful things as may be incidental or conducive to the attainment of the foregoing objectives. Leadership The Chamber is governed by a 11 member Board of Governors, including 2 appointed positions, 4 elected officers, and 5 elected governors. AmCham Guangdong is a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Asia Pacific Association of American Chambers of Commerce (APCAC), and the informal All-China AmCham Group.
Activities Breakfast Meetings ¨C Held on the first Wednesday of each month, AmCham invites all of our members, and interested guests, to attend this event. Each month a guest speaker will give an informational presentation on current topics of interest to the foreign business community in Guangzhou. Past speakers have been from organizations including IBM, Procter & Gamble, Kodak, and the Economist Intelligence Unit, among others.
Seminar & Luncheon Programs- The Chamber hosts day-long, half-day and luncheon presentations on a regular basis, featuring in depth coverage of current, relevant topics. These gatherings also offer members an opportunity to meet and talk with decision-makers in an open and informal atmosphere. The seminar programs are aimed at enhancing business and interpersonal skills for professionals at all levels.
Committee Meetings ¨C Committees play an important role in the creative aspect of the Chamber, as committees identify relevant industry specific topics and design forums for further discussion and education.
Community Involvement- AmCham Guangdong is committed to making the community in which we all live and work, a better one. The Chamber supports charity events each year and encourages member companies to become involved in Chamber related and other community projects. Doorknock Participation ¨C AmCham Guangdong participates in the annual AmCham-China ¡°doorknock¡± to lobby Congress in Washington D.C. as part of the Chamber¡¯s advocacy efforts.
Special Events- The Chamber organizes a variety of special events throughout the year including an annual 4th of July barbecue, International Spring Ball, summer Happy Hour Mixers, Trade Missions, and sporting tournaments.
Consulate Briefings- Twice a year the Consul General and other principal consulate officers give extended briefings at a cocktail reception for AmCham members.
Services AmCham Cooperative Relationships ¨C AmCham Guangdong maintains cooperative relationships with American Chambers throughout greater China. AmCham Hong Kong and Taipei offer member prices on entrance to all of their events for AmCham Guangdong members, and AmCham Shanghai and Beijing offer preferential prices on entrance fees to their events. (AmCham Guangdong membership card is needed to obtain preferential rates). Visa Program- Direct employees of AmCham Corporate Members can waive personal appearances when applying for B-1 visas to the USA. More information on this program is available at the AmCham Offices. Membership of one year or longer is required to be eligible for the visa program.
Compensation & Benefit Survey- Annually Chamber members are invited to participate in a Compensation & Benefits survey for local staff, at beneficial rates, and in conjunction with AmCham Shanghai and AmCham China (Beijing).
Business Briefings- For a fee of $75.00 (Free for Chamber members), the Chamber will organize a meeting for companies considering establishing operations in Guangdong, or for visiting company executives. Attendees drawn from the Chamber membership offer expertise, insights and candid advice about the business climate in southern China. Discount Program- AmCham Guangdong members are entitled to discounts at local restaurants, golf clubs, and more. A complete and current list is printed each month in the South China Business Journal.
Publications Directory- A Guangdong resource guide full of useful membership contact numbers including information for the AmCham Board of Governors as well as U.S. Embassy and Consulate officials, and important local numbers. A supplementary directory is published in October.
South China Business Journal ¨C The monthly magazine published by the Chamber providing updates on Chamber events, committee activities, and featuring current articles from invited writers, past speakers, and U.S. Consulate staff.
