Man passionate about making SZ more international

Sally Wang
RAVI MUKHERJEE always has a number of ideas about how to make Shenzhen a more international place. As an Indian who has stayed in Shenzhen for over three years, Mukherjee says he regards Shenzhen as his own city and even calls himself a "Chinese Indian."
As the resident representative of Associated Chamber of Commerce & Industry of India in Shenzhen, Mukherjee has also focused on developing the India-China relationship. Now he and Linda Lin, a Chinese woman who shares his ideas and passion for a more international Shenzhen, have launched the non-profit Shenzhen International Forum.
The forum would provide a platform for the exchange of science and technology as well as art and culture, between Shenzhen and the rest of the world, according to Mukherjee.
"Having an international population alone does not make the city international. We hope to help bring a more cohesive international community through the forum," he said.
Last Friday¡¯s forum involving Indian and Shenzhen-based telecommunication companies proved a big success. "Senior management with ZTE, Huawei, and Skyworth all came, and discussed latest technologies with the Indian telecommunication giant MCorp Global," Mukherjee said.
Comparing Shenzhen with more developed metropolises like New York and Shanghai, he said Shenzhen is just like a baby, full of potential and opportunities.
In September, Mukherjee plans to organize an event celebrating the friendship between India, China and Italy. He also plans to establish a chapter of the forum in New Delhi, India in December.
